Ziro, May 21, 2025:
In a significant initiative aimed at boosting aquatic biodiversity and supporting the livelihoods of local communities, the Department of Fisheries, Lower Subansiri District, conducted a Lake/River Ranching Programme today at Seeh and Siikhe lakes. The event marked the release of 100,000 Indian Major and Minor Carps into the water bodies, a move designed to promote conservation, enhance fish production, and foster eco-tourism.
The programme is part of a broader effort to increase surplus fish production, improve the income of communities dependent on these lakes, and create a platform to attract both domestic and international tourists.

A host of dignitaries attended the event, including Advocate Pura Dollo, ZPC; Smti Koj Yana, ZPM; Smti Nani Jailyang, ZPM; Smti Misso Yadii, ZPM; Shri Liagi Lasa, DFDO, Ziro; Shri Mihin Tapin, Farm Manager, Aqua Park, Tarin; and leaders from the local cooperative societies, including Shri Liagi Miri, Chairman, and Shri Tage Rido, Secretary of Seeh Multipurpose Cooperative Society, as well as Shri Misso A. Gambo, Chairman, and Shri Nani Takha, Secretary of Siikhe Multipurpose Cooperative Society.
The event also witnessed participation from officers and officials of the Department of Fisheries and enthusiastic support from the local communities of Seeh and Siikhe. Residents expressed appreciation for the department’s initiative, recognizing it as a valuable step toward environmental sustainability and economic upliftment.

This ranching programme reinforces the district’s commitment to balancing ecological conservation with developmental goals, especially in sectors like fisheries that are vital for food security and rural employment.
