Ziro, May 5: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking under Operation Dawn 2.0, Ziro police arrested four alleged drug peddlers in two separate operations and seized a total of 51.2 grams of suspected heroin.
Acting on credible intelligence received on May 3 around 8 PM, the police launched an operation targeting two suspects—Takhe Tabyo and Hage Puyang—who were reportedly in possession of contraband substances. A police team led by SI J. Doye, under the supervision of SDPO Ziro and guidance of SP Keni Bagra, swiftly mobilized to the suspects’ location at Hill Top, Hapoli, with support from PHQ’s technical surveillance.
Upon arrival at the apartment, the team apprehended the duo and conducted a thorough search, recovering 11 plastic vials containing suspected heroin weighing 14.9 grams, 49 empty vials, and 12 used syringes. The accused were arrested following all legal protocols.
During interrogation, the duo disclosed that they sourced their drugs from a woman identified as Yumlam Maynig alias Anisha, who was en route to Ziro from Itanagar to deliver more supplies.
Based on this intel, the police conducted an intense naka checking operation on May 4 at Kardo Check Gate, where Yumlam Maynig alias Anisha was apprehended with 22 vials of suspected heroin weighing 29.6 grams.
In a separate operation the same day, police arrested another woman, Kabak Yana, during routine Inner Line Permit checking at Kardo Check Gate. She had been under police surveillance for an extended period. Upon search, five vials containing 6.7 grams of suspected heroin were seized from her possession.
Two separate cases have been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is currently underway.
Ziro Police reaffirmed their commitment to continue the fight against drug menace in the region.
