Ziro, April 30: In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the Ziro police on Tuesday arrested a suspected drug peddler and seized 23.5 grams of suspected heroin during a naka checking operation.
Acting on a credible tip-off received at around 4:00 PM, a police team was swiftly constituted under the close supervision of Superintendent of Police Keni Bagra. The team comprised Inspector S. Roy, Sub-Inspectors K. Yigam and J. Yomcha, ASI C. Tallo, and Constable N.P. Suyang, under the direct command of SDPO O. Lego.
The input indicated that an unnamed individual was transporting contraband substances from Assam to Ziro. In response, the police launched intensive naka checking at the Kardo area.
During the operation, a motorcyclist exhibiting suspicious behavior attempted to evade the checkpoint. The police team promptly gave chase and successfully intercepted the suspect.
The rider was identified as Tage Takung (28), a resident of Lempia village. A thorough body search was conducted in the presence of an executive magistrate, which led to the recovery of 18 vials containing suspected heroin, weighing 23.5 grams.
The contraband was seized as per legal procedures. Subsequently, a case has been registered at Ziro Police Station vide ZPS C/No.28/2025 under sections 21(a)/27(a) of the NDPS Act.
