Drug Peddler Arrested in Ziro; 28.9 Grams of Suspected Heroin Seized

Ziro, May 2: In a major breakthrough under Operation Dawn 2.0, the Ziro Police apprehended a drug peddler and seized a substantial quantity of suspected heroin in a late-night operation on May 2.

Based on credible intelligence received on May 1 at around 10 PM, police were alerted that one individual, identified as Shri Toko Tath alias Bishnu, was in possession of suspected contraband substances.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a team was constituted under the close supervision of SP K. Bagra. The team included SDPO O. Lego, SIs J. Yomcha, J. Doye, K. Yigam, ASI C. Tallo, and Constable A. Babla. Using technical surveillance and inputs from field sources and PHQ, the team tracked the suspect to a rental apartment near the Sumo Counter in Hapoli.

Upon reaching the location, the police team found the accused inside the apartment. A body search was conducted, but no incriminating evidence was initially recovered. However, Toko Tath was detained and brought to Ziro Police Station for interrogation.

During questioning on May 2, the accused confessed to having hidden the drugs at another rented residence. Acting on his disclosure, the police team, accompanied by Executive Magistrate Mide Bage, proceeded to the said location.

An intensive search of the premises led to the recovery of 22 plastic vials containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 28.9 grams, 36 empty plastic vials, and a transparent packet containing 10 new syringes.

A case has been registered under ZPS Case No. 29/2025 under relevant sections 21(a)/27(a) of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is currently underway.

Ziro Police have reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on drug-related crimes and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
