Ziro, May 29, 2025:
In a significant step toward reinforcing the fight against drug abuse, the District Administration of Lower Subansiri reaffirmed its commitment during the 9th NCORD (National Coordination for Responding to Drugs) District Level Committee Meeting held at the Golden Jubilee Conference Hall in Ziro. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Shri Vivek H.P. (IAS).

Addressing the gathering, DC Vivek H.P. underscored the importance of collective responsibility in combating the drug menace, emphasizing that the war against drugs is not solely the duty of the police or administration but requires the united efforts of every stakeholder — from government agencies to community organizations.

He lauded the exemplary efforts of CDPO Ziro-I, Smti Takhe Rinyo Bullo, for her large-scale awareness campaigns on HIV/AIDS and drug abuse conducted in collaboration with the district police and targeted at Anganwadi workers.

In a strategic move to enhance coordination, the Deputy Commissioner also announced the formation of a dedicated intelligence-sharing unit comprising all sister agencies, which will operate under his directive to bolster surveillance and intervention strategies.

DC Vivek also acknowledged the significant contributions and concerns expressed by community-based organizations (CBOs) in tackling the growing drug problem in the valley. He especially commended the district police for registering six NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases and arresting eight individuals since the last NCORD meeting.

DySP Ziro, Shri Ojing Lego, appreciated the proactive involvement of the CBOs but urged them to work in consultation with law enforcement authorities. He advised community leaders to coordinate with SP Ziro to draft standard operating procedures (SOPs) for addressing NDPS-related cases, stressing the sensitivity involved in such matters.

The meeting witnessed the participation of key officials including Smti Dani Yami, Deputy Director ICDS; Shri Kocho Jomoh, DDSE; Smti Takhe Rinyo Bullo, CDPO Ziro-I; and representatives from the Health, Forest, and Tax & Excise departments. Executive members of TSD, AWAZ, APWWS Ziro Unit, and personnel from CRPF were also present.

The session concluded with a call for continued vigilance, community cooperation, and inter-departmental collaboration to safeguard the future of the youth and eradicate drug abuse from the district.
