Yingkiong, 30th January 2026: In a collaborative effort to promote public health and environmental responsibility, AARRO Welfare Society, an NGO focused on social welfare and community development, organised a community cleanliness and sanitation drive in the local market area in Yingkiong.
The drive aimed to raise awareness about the critical importance of cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene in fostering healthier communities. Commencing at 9:00 AM, the event brought together enthusiastic local residents, volunteers, and members of the AARRO Welfare Society. Participants actively engaged in a hands-on social service cleanliness session, which included practical demonstrations and group activities to address key issues such as proper waste management, personal hygiene practices, and maintaining sanitary public spaces.
The sanitation-focused initiative was organized in alignment with broader awareness efforts around the Siang Multipurpose Project (SUMP). As part of the drive, participants were provided with informative FAQ booklets on the project, aimed at building informed understanding of hydropower, river basin management, and long-term environmental sustainability. By integrating community hygiene efforts with awareness on large-scale infrastructure planning, the initiative underscored SUMP’s emphasis on holistic development, where public health, environmental stewardship, and sustainable resource management go hand in hand.
The event witnessed strong commitment to sustaining such initiatives from the local community members. “We are dedicated to ongoing community-focused awareness drives that empower individuals to prioritize public health, social responsibility, and sustainable practices,” said Anil Tekseng, President, AARRO Welfare Society.
He added, “By engaging citizens directly in issues of hygiene, waste management, and environmental care, we aim to create a strong foundation for healthier and more resilient communities. At the same time, integrating these efforts with awareness around the Siang Multipurpose Project helps people understand how local actions and large infrastructure initiatives are interconnected in shaping sustainable development, ecological balance, and the future wellbeing of the region.”
The drive not only achieved immediate cleanliness goals but also inspired attendees to adopt lasting habits for a cleaner, greener Yingkiong.
Looking ahead, the AARRO Welfare Society plans to expand these efforts through similar events across the region, encouraging wider participation from schools, businesses, and government bodies to build a more resilient and health-conscious society.
